United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF works in 157 countries and spends more than $1.2 billions a year, primarily on child protection, immunization, fighting HIV/AIDS and girls' education. Seventy-six percent of adults in developing countries can now read and write and 84 percent of children attend primary school.

World Food Programme (WFP)

WFP, the world's largest humanitarian agency, reaches on average 90 million hungry people in 80 countries every year, including most of the world's refugees and internal displaced people. WFP food aid is designed to meet the special needs of women and children, those most often affected by hunger. School feeding projects provide free lunches or take-away meals to more than 17 million school children.

United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR)

UNHCR sets up and maintain refugee camps all over the world and endures that refugees fleeing danger receive shelter and basic supplies. UNHCR is responsible for documenting all refugees, making them eligible for resettlement in countries accepting refugees.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

The mission of the UNEP is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)

UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations. It provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women's empowerment and gender equality. Placing the advancement of women's human rights at the centre of all of its efforts, UNIFEM focuses its activities on four strategic areas: (1) reducing feminized poverty, (2) ending violence against women, (3) reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS among women and girls, and (4) achieving gender equality in democratic governance in times of peace as well as war.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is an international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity. UNFPA supports countries in using population data for policies and programmes to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.
